Teachers complete their training with the city

Three young women have completed their year of recognition as teachers and three young women have completed Integrated Practical Training (PIA) to become teachers. Everyone agrees it was a good time at the daycares. New training positions will be announced after the summer holidays.

They are comfortable passing exams. Some are also saddened by the idea that time is up now. That is the feeling of the teachers who are completing their training at various day care centers in the city this summer. Among the alumni are Carolina Dontgen, Charlene Chlubka, Libonita Ibichi, Esra Ataman, Saskia Kossel and Agnes Matola. Young professionals all agree it was a good time in daycares. Three young women have completed their year of recognition there as teachers and three young women have completed Integrated Practical Training (PIA) to become teachers.

Looking back, they report that they learned a lot about themselves during this time. Some have bypassed themselves, have managed to change their point of view and thus approach things in everyday practical life differently.

The challenges were, for example, conflict conversations, time management between school and practice in the facilities – and of course Corona. Sometimes there were only online classes, group mixing was not allowed in day care centers and of course there was an even greater shortage of staff.

“The fact that young teachers are able to categorize and critically evaluate situations in favor of those who are entrusted to them can be seen in the discussion of how the COVID-19 situation in day care centers is affecting children,” explains Ann-Catherine Stroh, who is responsible for staff dispatch at the municipal youth welfare office. On the one hand, the independence of young children was encouraged, for example by the fact that their parents were no longer allowed to bring them to the facility. On the other hand, it was also very restrictive – children were no longer allowed to help themselves when eating and the outside area could only be used at specific times for individual groups. In addition, parenting suffered.

However, during this difficult time, trainees can always count on the support of the teams at the facilities. The exchange with fellow students and teachers as part of the PIA was also of great help. The trainees’ experiences with children will be formative: they have met them with great warmth and openness. “Prospective teachers were allowed to be involved in what moved the little ones, accompany them through all the ups and downs until they started school and simply try to be there for them,” Stroh says.

With all this experience, young professionals feel affirmed and well-prepared for their career aspirations for the future. In addition, the theoretical knowledge acquired at school forms a good basis for practice.

The future plans for the six teachers are very different: three will remain in Moers day care, others will start their studies online or go on to other educational fields of work.

There are various training opportunities in the day care centers in Moers:
