Arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) is said to be able to sell Gepard anti-aircraft tanks from former Bundeswehr stocks to Ukraine. In addition, Kyiv has another display of German tanks.

According to information from the German news agency, the federal government now wants to allow the delivery of tanks from industrial stocks to Ukraine.

Arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) will give the go-ahead to be able to sell technically refurbished Cheetah anti-aircraft tanks from former Bundeswehr stocks. On the basis of this information, a similar decision was made in principle.

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has an average of two such tanks of the German Army’s anti-aircraft defense. The cheetah can also be used in the fight against ground targets. On the other hand, combating flying targets along with other forces is more technically demanding.

On Tuesday, he waited with interest for the speech of Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (Social Democratic Party) at the US air base in Ramstein in the Rhineland-Palatinate. At the invitation of the USA, representatives of many countries wanted to discuss the Ukraine war there. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin invited representatives from nearly 40 countries to the conference at the largest US air base outside the United States.

The federal government has begun a “turning point” in financing the army and wants to provide 100 billion euros in special funding for the Bundeswehr. In a circular exchange with partners from Eastern Europe, the weapons systems already in use will be supplied to Ukraine. Germany also wants to support the Netherlands and the United States in training Ukrainian soldiers for artillery systems. There are plans for closer cooperation after the announcement of Niederlange, which wants to deliver the Panzerhaubitze 2000 weapon system.

Rheinmetall wants to deliver Leopard main battle tanks to Ukraine

Düsseldorf-based armament group Rheinmetall has offered Ukraine 88 Leopard main battle tanks. This stems from the documents available to the German Press Agency.

Accordingly, the offer also includes training of the crew in Germany, training in repairs, tools, spare parts, service base and ammunition.

First, he reported to “The World” about the show. According to the information contained in the newspaper, the request for approval of the extradition was submitted at the end of last week at the responsible Ministry of Economic Affairs. The federal government also received another request from Rheinmetall to allow it to deliver 100 Marder armored personnel carriers to Ukraine for defense against Russia. Government spokesman Stephen Hebestreet said on Monday that the decision would be taken “expeditiously”.

According to “Welt”, the arms company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) also wants to deliver 100 self-propelled howitzers 2000. The Netherlands also wants to deliver these heavy artillery pieces, which can hit targets at a distance of 40 kilometers, to Ukraine. So far, the federal government has only promised training aid and ammunition for this.

1A5 Leopard tanks, which were built from the early 1960s and were used by the Bundeswehr until 2003. The company wants to deliver the first copies in a few weeks. The costs are estimated at 115 million euros.

Direct delivery of tanks from Germany to Ukraine is controversial in the coalition. SPD leader Saskia Eskin expressed skepticism about this on Monday. She said that the question of direct supplies by German industry is currently out of the question because the tanks produced cannot be used directly. Soldiers in Ukraine are not familiar with weapons systems. “It takes a long education and a long training.” For maintenance and repair, spare parts “we can’t supply” and mechanics are also needed.
